"Man Goes to Doctor. Says He's Depressed"

A short story that was mentioned on the podcast #8 - Mental health & Dealing With Depression which really illustrates how sometimes on the surface someone may seem ok, yet deep inside they are fighting a terrible battle with depression.

"Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor...I am Pagliacci.”

This story has been a terrifying reality for many, including big time celebrities such as Robin Williams. If you find yourself in the seemingly endless trenches of depression, don't give up. "This too shall pass..." can be a strong mantra to remind yourself that you are NOT depression, you are experiencing depression and it does not define or own you. It can be a tough fight for sure, the best advice is to slowly integrate things that used to make you happy back into your daily routine and slowly build it from there.

Our podcast on mental health could be a good resource to help you take steps forward into a brighter future.
